ATK Energetic Systems is a major producer of rocket and gun propellants and other energetic materials that support munitions used by the Army, Air Force, Navy, and Marines. Energetic Systems operates the Radford Army Ammunition Plant (RFAAP) in Radford, Virginia. Built in the early 1940s to support military ammunition requirements during World War II, RFAAP today is the only active full-spectrum military propellant manufacturing center in the U.S. and also produces smokeless powders for commercial ammunition. In addition, Energetic Systems engineers are pioneering materials and techniques for next-generation propellants and products, including the Guided Advanced Tactical Rocket System (GATR) and flexible energetic materials.
