Thermal Coatings has extensive experience in thermal control coatings for spaceflight applications. The group provides leadership in the selection and qualification of thermal control coatings required for innovative space system designs. Thermal control systems are designed to be active or passive.
Thermal Coatings utilizes passive thermal control systems that reflect and absorb solar energy and radiate energy (heat) to maintain temperature control of spacecraft, flight instruments, and hardware. The group works closely with thermal, mechanical, and electrical subsystems to provide an efficient and effective systems engineering approach to successfully meet customer needs.
Thermal Coatings has proven capabilities in the research and development, application, thermal radiative property characterization, and space environmental testing of thermal control coatings and materials. One of the group's significant accomplishments includes the application of the protective coating on the astronaut visors. Thermal Coatings capabilites are shown in the table.
