On April 18, 2009 the City of Blue Springs, Missouri held their Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) event. Residents of Blue Springs and surrounding communities were able to bring their Household Hazardous Waste to a drop-off location. The HHW material that was collected included automotive fluids, batteries, fuels, household cleaners, law and garden products, pesticides, paint and related products. The HHW event was a huge success, 360 vehicles were unloaded and the HHW materials were collected and disposed of by a Hazardous Waste Contractor. Lake City, ATK, provided four volunteers for the HHW event, they include Pam Lyon (Quality Auditor), Jennifer Wickersheim (Lean to Green Project Manager), Denise Bricker and George Abbott (Environmental Engineering).
