Environmental Compliance
The Environmental Closure of the Area 8 Solid Waste Landfill Cells #1 & #2 started in January 2009 and has been completed. The solid waste cells #1 & 2, in area 8, contain dewatered Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant (IWTP) Sludge. The first phase included moving existing soil from one area of the landfill to another and constructing an engineering cover which consisted of compacted layers of clay to meet regulatory requirements. The final phase included the placement of a flexible geomembrane liner and establishment of a vegetative cover.
The Environmental Closure will include post-closure care which includes groundwater monitoring and maintenance of the vegetative cover and drainage areas.
