Reactive Materials
ATK is at the forefront in the development of reactive
materials containing chemical energy — as high as or higher than TNT — that
are
released when they impact a target at high velocity.
By incorporating these materials into traditional warheads, they put more
energy on target by adding chemical energy to the kinetic energy of the
high-velocity fragments. Other significant advantages include reduced
collateral damage, simplified fuzing, and a reduction in safety concerns in
relation to traditional materials.
A new application for these materials is their use in a highly kinetic,
reactive material warhead. This technology is expected to be included in a
number of both land-based and sea-based warhead designs. |
