Lake City Army Ammunition Plant
ATK operates the Army-owned Lake
City Army Ammunition Plant (LCAAP) in Independence, Missouri, where it
produces a mix of 5.56mm, 7.62mm, 50-caliber, and other small-caliber rounds
for the U.S. armed forces. Built in the early 1940s to supply World War
II soldiers with the best ammunition anywhere, LCAAP has provided ammunition
to U.S. forces in every conflict fought since then.
ATK and the U.S. Army are jointly implementing
a modernization program at LCAAP designed to maintain its status as the
premier small-caliber ammunition production site in the world. The program
is the foundation for strengthening U.S. manufacturing of this vital product
by increasing capacity, efficiency, and quality. The primary focus is on
improving the electronic systems of current machinery, while also modernizing
many mechanical aspects of the production process.
The Army and ATK maintains a robust environmental program. For more information check out the quarterly environmental newsletter.
