25mm Propellants
The newest addition to ATK's propellant product line
is RP-33, a seven perf extruded grain designed for use in M791 APDS cartridges.
It is designed to deliver superior velocity at lower pressure and flame
temperature versus competing propellants. With a flame temperature 250°K
lower than the alternative propellant, RP-33 FS controls ballistic pressure
and action time to maximize effectiveness and minimize barrel wear.
From PGU-32 to M910 ammunition, the 25mm propellant family uses a single-base solvent formulation to control the ballistic performance and action time necessary to maximize first-hit probability with minimum barrel wear.
GAU-8/A and Lightweight 30mm Propellants
RP-1315FS and RP-788 propellants are specifically designed for medium-caliber armor-piercing and light-material ammunition. Made from a single-base solvent formulation, ATK's 30mm propellants provide superior performance to ensure the robustness of 30mm projectiles, including the PGU-13 High Explosive Incendiary (HEI) and the M789 High Explosive Dual Purpose (HEDP) ammunition. RP-1315FS and RP-788 can be manufactured to match the ballistic performance of tactical rounds and are available for test and training round applications.
M14 120mm Tank Training and Tactical Tank Round Propellant
Over the past ten years, ATK has manufactured more than 30 million rounds of
M14 to support the U.S. Army's demand for tank training ammunition. In addition
to giving mission-capable power to live rounds, M14 propellant delivers realistic
battle simulation in training rounds.
ATK's M14 propellant provides tank crews with unmatched training ammunition performance. It also delivers matching recoil, density, and ballistic characteristics throughout the training and battlefield environments. With a graphite glaze to improve charge loading and strict attention to grain uniformity, M14 is one of the most economical and reliable tank propellants on the market.
JA-2 Tank Propellants
JA-2 is a powerful 120mm tank propellant used in armor-piercing ammunition for the M829 (Kinetic Energy) and M830 (HEAT) family of rounds. Battlefield proven during Operation Desert Storm, JA-2 is specifically formulated to deliver the highest performance of any tank ammunition propellant on the market. JA-2 comes in sheet, stick, and granular forms for use as a tactical propelling charge for tank systems or in acceptance testing and range applications.
RPD-380 Tank Round Propellants
RPD-380 is a powerful 120mm tank propellant used in M829A3, the fourth generation 120mm armor-piercing, fin-stabilized, discarding-sabot tracer round cartridge. M829A3 is the kinetic energy round that provides the highest performance and greatest lethality of any tank round in the U.S. inventory. |
